Cannot extend Frontpage 2002 Extensions to virtual servers in IIS 7.0

Hi,

I'm stumped - I'm trying to enable Frontpage extensions on my localhost IIS 7.0 server (Vista Business with McAfee Total Protection 2008).  The problem is that in the Frontpage 2002 Server Extension Administration pages, the IIS 7.0 virtual servers are listed, but I receive an error message when I try to extend the FPSE's to the these directories.  The error message is: Cannot create folder "_vti_pvt".

I have already enable both basic and windows authentication for these servers, so I'm having a hard time understanding why FPSE cannot be extended to these virtual servers.

Any help is really appreciated.

Thanks,

Randy

First guess is because the architecture and configuration of IIS is *completely* different than any previous version.

Additionally, FPSE is not supported on IIS 7.

Are you logged in as the local Administrator account or as a different account with administrative rights?  Try logging in as 'ADMINISTRATOR' and see if that works.

Hi, Dave and cs97jjm3,

Yes, on iis.net, there are FPSE 2002 available for 2007 as indicated by cs97jjm3.  This is what I've installed on my IIS 7.  There is a note on iis.net that:

"IIS 7.0 supports a new shared configuration environment, which must be disabled before installing FPSE 2002. Note: Shared configuration is nor supported with FPSE 2002."

When I adminster IIS 7, there is no "shared configuration icon" under the management section, so I assume that when I installed to FPSE 2002 that it automatically disabled "shared configuration".  I still can't extend FPSE 2002 to my virtual servers.  I've even changed permission on these directories to allow anyone to alter them.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks,

Randy

Hi, Dave,

About logging on as adminstrator, I tried that - didn't work.  Any other thoughts or questions?

Hey,

I figured it out - apparently when running the FPSE 2002 server admistration pages in IE, you have to start Internet Explorer with the "Run as Administrator" and then it all works fine.

Hope this helps people in the future .

Take care,

Randy
