windows 2000 - virtual memory issue

we have a win2k server with 3G of RAM.  We set a paging file on C drive which has a lot of diskspace to initial size of 2046 and max is 4129.  For some reasons, when I go to system properites->Performance Options, and see "total paging file size for all drive" is only 20M.  Also do not see any increase in task manager->commit charge->total.

What else could go wrong?

Thanks.

Could have been a typo when you entered the value ... 2046 starts with 20 which is the size of the cache file.

Just try deleting the configuration and re-creating it.  It will cause a reboot of the server but you're not going to hurt anything.

If the new setting takes, then it was most likely a slip of the fingers when entering the numbers.

Just an FYI ... althought 2Gb is probably a standard size, the recommendation for the paging file is 1.5 times the amount of physical memory ... you should really have about a 5Gb paging file to accomodate the amount of memory in the system.

2Gb as a standard most likely stems from when 1Gb of memory was a standard configuration ... a lot of people configured the paging file to 2 times the physical memory ... MS does not recommend this though.
