Disabling MacBook optical drive

I have a MacBook with a mechanically busted optical drive, and since it's not operational, I was wondering if there's any way to turn it off completely, so that it won't draw power from the battery. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

Your question was a very specific "I was wondering if there's any way to turn it off completely, so that it won't draw power from the battery" to which I answered.  Had you asked "is there anything else I can do with this bay?"  I would have added something similar to what pheidius had said.  While it's great that experts add additional information, if you didn't ask the question, I personally don't feel like it deserves an assist.  I wouldn't expect an assist if I added something to the question that the asker didn't ask.  I would just add the info more as an FYI.  pheidius, I certainly hope you don't take this as dig towards you, you have contributed greatly to this site.
