If you are developing programs, you should start by downloading JDK6 Update 3 from http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp. You can choose either offline or online package. Run whichever one you download, and you should install Java for you. Make a not of what directory you installed Java in.

Afterward, go to System Properties either by holding the WinKey+Pause/Break shortcut or through Control Panel->System. Go to Advanced tab, and click the button at the bottom for Environmental Variables.

In the bottom field, find the one that is labeled Path. Double click it to edit, then add at the beginning C:\path\you\installed\java\bin; Click Ok several times and you should be set.

You can then test by going to Start->Run->cmd and typing javac and hitting enter.

HI,

To give you additional information.

The downloaded Java software is in the C drive within the programme files folder.
My notepad example.java is in the SEENU JAVA folder in the C drive.

Which folder is your Java saved into? C:\programmer\jdk or something else? Did you add it to the path as I outlined in my post?

Zyloch,

Are you asking about the Java software programme folder or the notepad folder (Seenujava) location?
