Login across multiple Domains

If ive got two .net website both using the same database to authenticate themselves but located on different domians i.e. 2nd level e.g. domain1.com and domain2.com is there any way for me to safly and securly move from  one site to another without having to login per domain?

I know you can use SSO for 3rd level domains but this isn't an option for me unfourtunitly
