I just installed eDirectory, Novell Client for windows 4.91 and Groupwise 7 on a brand new server.  I have an old groupwise 6 server.  I installed the new eDir to the old eDir.  I created a new POA and MTA.  At first I could login with the new client to the new system but was not able to send email outside of the system.  I wiped the server and reinstalled using an image.  I reinstalled all GW software but now I am not able to login to the system with the new client.  I would like to move all mailboxes over to the new server and throw the old server away.  The old server is a windows 2k adv server.  and the new server is a win 2k3.  If anyone has any advice I would appreciate it.  Thank you

Good afternoon.

My suggestion would be to either update the GroupWise 6 server to GroupWise 7 or install GroupWise 6 on the new server and then update.  That way you are not trying to copy and update at the same time.

I'm sure this is not a recommended way of doing this but it has worked for me in the past.
If you can get both post offices to the same version.

1. Install a new post office on the new server and NDS.  [you can name the new post office whatever you want since it will be removed from NDS.
2. shutdown the post office on the old server and new server [MTA too]
3. Copy your post office files from the old server to the new server.
4. In console one, point the old post office to the new server [change IP address, UNC path, and/or link configuration]
5. Start the post office on the new server and try to connect to it with the appropriate client.

If you still need to upgrade to version 7, I would do it at this point.

This is what I've done on several new servers and it has worked great.

Now I just glanced up and noticed something that I didn't before I started this post.  All of our post offices are on Netware 6.0 or 6.5 servers.  We currently, at this time, do not have any window servers that are running a groupwise post office.  So I do not know if this would work for a windows platform or not.  However, I'm going to leave the post just in case it would help you.

Good luck
