How to eliminate horizontal scroll bar in DIV

I have DIV that I would like to use a vertical scroll in, but it appears that by default, using "overflow:scroll;" puts in both vertical AND horizontal whether you like it or not.  How do I get rid of the horizontal scroll??

overflow-y:scroll;overflow-x:hide;
