Please advice in taking microsoft certification

I am planning to take a microsft certication exam.

Please advice me what path I should took. What exam should I take.

I have knowledge in MS Visual Basic, Visual basic 6.0, SQL Server 2000 and SQL express edition.
I am going to finance it myself, and my bagget is very thight.

Well it seems to me that you have several options:  1) focus on VB.NET for Windows Apps, 2) focus on VB.NET for Web Apps, 3) focus on SQL Server development:

1.  http://www.microsoft.com/learning/mcp/mcts/winapps/
2.  http://www.microsoft.com/learning/mcp/mcts/webapps/
3.  http://www.microsoft.com/learning/mcp/mcts/sql/

For (1) and (2), you should start with exam http://www.microsoft.com/learning/exams/70-536.mspx, but if your budget is tight you might want to jump straight to the next exams in the chain.
