I can get into the folder options and the offline files tab, choose enable offline files click apply and then the computer freezes and needs a hard reset.

I have tried windows updates and a windows repair

Do the CAPS LOCK and the NUMLOCK keys respond when this freezing occurs?

I would suggest retrying this in a NEW profile. Just create a new user, and see if the problem repeats. If not, then you know the original profile is shot, and we can work with that.....

Also, try and re register the core files responsible for Offline Files....

regsvr32 cscdll.dll
regsvr32 cscui.dll

Then reboot and retry....

regsvr32 cscdll.dll

Got the following error:
cscdll.dll was loaded, but the DllRegisterServer Entry point was not found.
DllRegisterServer may not be exported, or a corrupt version of cscdll.dll may be in memory, consider using Pview to detect and remove it.

regsvr32 cscui.dll

Registers sucessfully

After re registering the dlls I wasnt able to enable offline files, however I was able to re-initialise the caache and once I had done that all aspects of offline files appeared to be resolved.
I was unable to re-initialise until I had re registered the dll's so will accept as solutions.
Thanks for your help
