Right Click -- Save As -- In FTP does not work.

I have created an FTP site in IIS 6 (windows 2003)

I am able to access the FTP in IE and I can see the list of files in the FTP site.  I am not using Anonymous login and I do not wish to do so.  However when I left click on the files on the FTP, if the file is a text file for example, the file opens in IE.  When I Right Click and select Save Target As, I get the message :  Internet Explorer cannot Download "FileName" From "FTP Site".  The Login request was Denied.

I do not want to have to use an FTP client Software.

The user is well authenticated through the FTP site at the login prompt.  In Windows on the folder the user has All rights.

I would appreciate if anyone can help.

Point of Solution:
Their is no problem with you IIS, the problem is on the FTP server you are using that doesn't accept download.   I have given you the link of a simple ftp server and enables you to understand the system of the protocol, and if you want Both (Anonymous and Non Anonymous) you can download at some software sharing websites.

I hope your satisfied with the answers that i gave you for your coming  testing.
About Ftp Server with Both (Anonymous(baby-ftp) and Non-Anonymous)  please, select your choice of software to use.

WELL PROBABLY YOUR OR THE  FTP SERVER DOESN'T EXCEPT DOWNLOAD OPTIONS(FOR ASCII TYPE OF FILE), IF SO CHANGE SETTINGS OF YOUR FTP SERVER TO HAVE A DOWNLOAD OPTIONS. (^_~

JUST ENABLE THE ACCEPT DOWNLOAD OPTION.   AND IF YOUR THE ONE WHO'S MAKING THE FTP SERVER, MAKE A RULE THAT WILL ACCEPT DOWNLOADING. (^_~

Hello rionroc,

I do not see what do you mean.  What do you mean by the FTP SERVER itself?  I have a Computer with windows 2003 and I have the SERVICE FTP running.  Then in IIS I have configured the FTP settings.  I.e. the FTP folder is Inetpub/FTPROOT.

Could you clarify your answer please.  I am not sure if your solution applies to my problem or maybe I am misunderstanding.

Regards.

a ok, so.... you are using ftp server of Microsoft under windows 2003( i was thinking you've develop your own ftp server ), since the ftp server of Microsoft built in service is to rough, please use or test this simple ftp server:, http://www.pablosoftwaresolutions.com/html/baby_ftp_server.html , and you will understand, just goto settings,  enable want do you want too.  Good Luck.

Hi.

Sure I will award you the points once the problem is solved.

I have read the specs from the link you sent me.  Two things

1 Only allows anonymous connections
2. Set permissions for download/upload/rename/delete/create directory

One of my requirement (mentionned in my first post) is that I need some sort of authentification method so that for example a Tutor can upload file but a student cannot upload or execute the file.  Therefore the 2 specs of your program from the link (above) 1 does not allow me to have authentification and does 2 remedy to that problem?

I cannot test the program right now since I am not at work until beginning of january.

yes thats why i gave you that link, enables you to understand why your iis keep on bugging could not download the file because of your ftp server.   now if you want some permission login or registered login you have to try or test another simple ftp software that accept no anonymous,  until you have fully mastered and understand ftp you can use the ms ftp server.   i think i have solve your question and let you understand.

Hello Rionroc.

Sorry for not coming back to you earlier.  I find your solution good for my problem.  I think that IIS offers a basic FTP server and I need a software to manage my FTP as I need.  Thanks for you help.  Happy new year.
