I cannot remote desktop to my computer at work using the computer name.  I  create a VPN connection to my work but get a 733 error.  I can remote desktop using the IP address of my server, but get the error "cannot find computer..." when I try to remote desktop direclty into my computer at work (which does not have a static IP)

Open C:\Windows\System32\drivers\hosts for editing. Add an entry for <remote PC name>  <IP you can connect with> Save and close. Now retry your RDP session and make sure that if the remote Ip changes to change the hosts file entry.

First try this to resolve the vpn 733 issue. http://www.cryer.co.uk/brian/windows/trbl_w2k_tcpre733.htm

Second When you say "I can remote desktop using the IP address of my server, but get the error "cannot find computer..." when I try to remote desktop direclty into my computer at work (which does not have a static IP)". Does that mean you can connect via RDP using the public static IP of your server at work?

Once you have a working VPN connection my original post may work depending on your network infrastructure at work.
