Why did I get a logon stop error?

I was wondering if anyone knows why I got a logon stop error that read:

Stop:c000021a (Fatal Stop Error)
The windows logon process system process terminated unexpectadly with a status of 0x00000402(0x00000000 0x00000000)
The system has been shut down

I turned off the computer and it did it again (couple of times) Then I turned pc off again for a little while and then it booted ok.  Now I'm afraid to turn my pc off :(  Is this a sign something is really going wrong and will get worse?
Thank you,

Thank you for your quick response...but it says "To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Internet Explorer 6" But I have Internet Explorer 7 and XP service pack 2 (the latest one)  What shall I do now?

Please help,
Thank you,

Can you launch a checkdisk?

I run that by typing in the run box chkdisk?

Open Windows explorer. Rightclick on the c-drive, go to properties - tools - check now - check the two checkboxes and then hit start. You'll need to restart the pc to perform the scan.

Ok thanks:) The only thing is I'm afraid to restart because of the stop error:(  Will the checkdisk fix the problem Microsoft was talking about?

well I accepted your answer and awarded you the points because the stop error link was correct...accept what they said to repair it cause I have INternet explorer 7 not six and I have the patest service pack I think...so I haven't technically done anything to fix the problem and am not sure if it will happen again:( so I should run the checkdisk right? It will probably fix it?

Just perform the checkdisk and see what happens.

Error 0x00000402 (0x00000000 0x00000000)  The computer shutdown suddenly  every time it runs for a while,The machine is a HP Laptop Pavilion zv 5000 Pentium 4 Processor 80 GB Hard Disk (new) Commenting in this error,I will ask in my case that I put a new hard disk.and install new memory,Yesterday I took the buttom cover to check if the fan were running and they were running fine, so I left  the machine running with the fans running but with no obstruccion (I mean I recline the computer to one of it sides)and the machine run smoothly all night.so I'm thinking, since this is not a new computer should I put some heat sink compound to the procesor just in case  the problem is that the processor is overheating?
