Can Outlook 2003 be configured so a single click on an email doesn't mark it as 'read' while using the Preview view

Last Modified: 2010-04-21
I'm trying to find a way to prevent Outlook 2003 from marking an email as read when it is single clicked to view with preview pane enabled.

A user was recently given a new Windows image on their laptop, both had Outlook 2003 and WinXP. They are stating that the old configuration of Outlook allowed them to perform a single click to an email and it would keep it shown as an unread/bold text email.
I looked around under options but couldn't find any instance of a setting to change this.

Any help would be appreciated!
