Windows not detecting cdrom or dvdrw drives
Hi,
I have a pc that has stopped showing its optical drives for some reason. The BIOS can detect and see the the drives. Windows system device management can detect the devices with exclamation mark, but they fail to show up as normal drives in windows explorer.
I have tried a new dvdrw drive, not luck.
I have swapped the IDE cable, no luck.
I have tried the hdd ide cable in the second ide slot, and the windows boots up fine.
I have the optical drive in the pri ide slot, no luck.
I have a cdrom drive as a slave off the hdd ide cable, no luck.
I have just completed a Windows Repair installation, no luck.
I have downloaded and installed the latests mobo chipset drivers, no luck.
I want to avoid having to do a complete system backup, Format and re-installation of windows.
I dont think this is a hardware problem and both ide connectors check out fine with the hdd.
Regards,
Richard

:) It seems everyone always goes for the "delete the UpperFilters and LowerFilters values" solution for this type of problem.
Reckon it's because that nearly always works? :)
