169.xxx.xxx.xxx IP Address
What would cause a computer to pull a 169.xxx.xxx.xxx IP Address? Here is the situation - we have a cable connection with a netgear wireless router. For a while we had a good signal to our wireless laptops computers. We lost that connection and now get the infamous strong signal with "Limited or No Connectivity." Also, the computer that is wired to the router also has an erratic connection. What could be causing this? Is it the router or the modem or both? The network is secured with WEP encryption and all computers are set to "Obtain an IP Address Automatically and to Obtain DNS Server address automatically. I have tried different network cards in one of the laptops with no success.

You probably first have to reset the router (if a simple turn off and on doesn't work), as in order to be able to update the firmware you will require access to it, and if all the connected PC's have limited connections, you won't be able to access it to upload the firmware.
make sure on your router that DHCP is working and was not turned off. Also you could turn off wep to do a test to make sure your wep is not causing this problem.

That is automatic private IP addressing. If your computer is assigning it self a IP address that means it's having trouble communicating with your DHCP server. Your wireless router is probably doing DHCP.

Some things you can do fix the issues are:
1) update the firmware on your router (and cable modem as long as your at it)
2) update the drivers on your wireless card.
3) worst case you might have to do a hard reset on the router. Something may have gotten screwed up.
Hope this helps
