Proactive Volume Shadow Restore Lesson

I just took over the managment of a new network.

I have been exploring the configs on all of the servers and I came across a scheduled task that I really don't know what to do with it.

I found that the previous admin was using VSSADMIN to do back ups of data so that he could restore data that was accidentally deleted. Here is the string of text from the scheduled job:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\vssadmin.exe Create Shadow /AutoRetry=5 /For=\\?\Volume{3feda0e9-9b1a-11da-a7ad-806e6f6e6963}\

I want to know how I can restore data from these twice daily backups.

I thought that the Revert Shadow command would work, but it appears to want to roll the entire volume back to the time of the back up and not just the accidentally deleted file.

DId you check all the parameters of the vssadmin command ?

vssadmin /?

I would expect that it can restore what has been backed up.

I would also look into an alternate solution, that may be a little more user friendly.

I hope this helps !
