URL Rewrite on stand alone tomcat?

I'm a PHP developer switch over to JAVA. In php, I can do url rewrite with apache, and I want to do the same thing for tomcat. I did some digging with google, and seems like some people use mod_jk and some use a urlRewriteFilter for url rewrite.

Is there a standard way of doing url rewrite with tomcat? (didn't find anything in their docs either)

Thanks for all the help.
