I know this is a dumb question but I need an answer quick and have so many other things going on at the same time... In javascript, I am doing:

var myVariable;
myVariable = document.getElementById("controlID");
myVariable.style.display="none";

This works fine in IE but why doesn't this work in Firefox?  I heard somewhere that IE is the only browser that can call a control by it's ID... is that true?  What is the best way to do this?

Gewgala,

Just to make sure my answer to your specific questions is clear though.  That method will work fine in Firefox and is very cross browser compatible.  It doesn't use anything that is IE specific.  Hopefully my comment above will help you identify the problem though.  It is a common one.

Let me know if you have a question.

Firefox does support document.getElementById
