I have a wireless router purchased from Qwest with their DSL service. At times it slowes down a lot. I wanted to make sure no one was using my wireless network. You have to use the 10 digit key off the router to access the network, however I am sure their are ways around that. I wanted to see if there was a way to tell if someone was accessing my network?

Most home routers can be logged in to using a standard web browser. This provides you access to all the settings as well as a DHCP client list which shows all devices that have recently connected to the router. Try searching for the make and and model of your router in google. You should be able to find some info on how to log in to it.

Download and run IP scanner. It scans wireless network and shows you online devices.

Do ipconfig /all.
The default gateway is your router's IP.
Put this into your browser. It should bring up a login page. If you don't know the login, try the default for that manufacturer. (eg. google netopia 7477 admin password default etc)
Have a look around the admin site then and it will show all active connections

Rogiee:
Great link that program is up and running. It is showing numerous alert IP addresses.

Rindi:
How do I know if it is using WPA? And if it isn't can I set it up to use that? After loading the above program I have found what looks like way too many IP access since I only have one computer, now how do I block those people?

Thanks for all the help everyone.

If you log on to the Router you should see what it uses under the security section. You can usually select between none, WEP and WPA encryption. IT should also show the properties of your wireless card on the PC, which type of encryption you have set it up with.

Check the router's manual. Usually you open a webbrowser, then enter the router's ip address in the address bar, then a username and password. If you haven't changed anything from the factory setup, all the necessary info should be in the manual
