iPhone causing event ID 529 for IMAP

I am trying to setup an iPhone for a client and when I try to verify the account on the phone, I get the following in the event logs:

Logon Failure:
Reason:            Unknown user name or bad password
       User Name:      domain\bob
       Domain:
       Logon Type:      3
       Logon Process:      NtLmSsp
       Authentication Package:      NTLM
       Workstation Name:      XXXX iPhone
       Caller User Name:      -
       Caller Domain:      -
       Caller Logon ID:      -
       Caller Process ID:      -
       Transited Services:      -
       Source Network Address:      -
       Source Port:      -

with an event ID of 529. I have IMAP open on the firewall and am able to telnet to it, so I think the authentication issue is the last thing holding me back. I have tried all the following variations of the user name:
domain/username
username@domain.local
username
domain/John Doe/alias

I have also logged in as the user through OWA to verify that the name and password are correct. Any help is appretiated.

I havent had an opportunity to play with the iPhone yet!  But if Im not mistaken the iPhone defaults to a port other than 143.

- Check the IMAP port settings and see if they match your mail server.  The default is 143.
- Just from looking at the logins that you have tried your slash is backwards.  Its always the small things that cost us the most time.

Best of luck!
Sorry for the funny markings.  I'm new to the site and when I copied my comment from word it didnt take it to well.

ASKER

The default for IMAP is 143, and SSL with IMAP is 993. It tries SSL by default first (open on the firewall currently) and then it tries it without IMAP (also open on the firewall). Also, since I can see a log, and I can telnet to the ports, I think the ports are ok.

You also caught my typing error, I was using the "\"  not the "/" on the phone as well. And to be totally honest, I tried a couple of the formats with both types of slashes just for kicks and giggles.
