Need a graphics package which does lighting effects
I need a graphics package which will allow me to create a block of colour with a lighting effect at the top or in the corner or somewhere else.
E.g. for a black block and with the light source at the top, the square would be grey at the top and gradually become darker towards the bottom.
Ideally, the package would be free :-) but I don't mind shelling out a few dollars if it is fairly decent. It'd have to be downloadable though as time may be tight on this project.

I was waiting to see if there were any more answers but having looked at Photoshop over the weekend it looks like this will do everything I need.
Can you recommend any decent books? I could probably do with one that covers all the features at a high level. There are a lot of books out there but I suspect not all of them are good.

Good choice, Yes I know this product does not come cheap.
Adobe Photoshop offers books on lighting effects but probably related to the product itself.

Most are available in the moden CD e-learning textures now.
