64 bit vista ultimate wont play .mov files

Last Modified: 2011-10-19
OS=vista 64 bit ultimate.  Apple quicktime wont play w this OS.  I  downloaded Quicktime alternative and installed it. Starting the program prompts me to enter my  Quicktime Pro registration njumber which I don't have.   I do not plan on buying quicktime pro since it will not run on 64 bit vista.  How can I play .mov files on this PC?  I hoped quictime alternative would be a solution but it appears it's use rquires the purchase of quicktime pro.

You don't need Quicktime 7 Pro -- You want Quicktime 7 Player -- Free Download Qicktime 7.3 for XP or Windows -- My advice get the one with iTunes, which is very useful even if you don't have an iPod.

i found the answer in another search engine.

And this worked for you?
The author ultimately asked, "How can I play .mov files on this PC? (OS=vista 64 bit ultimate) -- Unless someone can advise otherwise, the answer is with the Quicktime Player.
The author didn't have Quicktime Player -- instead Quicktime Pro, which wouldn't load because, as stated, "Starting the program prompts me to enter my  Quicktime Pro registration njumber (sic) which I don't have." So the author tried Quicktime Alternative, which didn't work.
The link that the author gives as the solution doesn't deal with the above problems.
<And this worked for you?>
Guess it didn't.

I have just had a world of drama getting Quicktime to run .mov on Vista 64. In particular Quicktime unable to play movies which are embedded in the browser. Enable compatability mode for your browser if you are attempting to watch embedded .mov files. You will need to use a 3rd party browser which in my case is Firefox, to enable compatability mode.
To enable compatability right click the shortcut to Firefox (or any other preferred browser other than Internet Explorer) > Properties > Compatability tab > Tick option 'Run this program in compatability mode for' and select ' Windows XP Service Pack2' from the drop down box.
Quicktime itself does not run in compatability mode (see attached error), so I also am having issues running .mov files directly from quicktime. At this stage looking for a suitable replacement for viewing .mov files, more specifically panoramic type .mov files which allow a complete 360 rotation. At this stage it appears apple has not even begun to support a 64bit environment
