Hello friends,

I'm just testing a RV042 router from linksys.
Is it possible to make a connection throught the QuickVpn-client without the need of admin-rights ?
I only manage to make a connection when I'm logged in as admin.
PPTP is no problem (but I need more than 5 tunnels...)

Honestly, don't use the QuickVPN client. You can actually use Microsoft's VPN client for accessing remote sites.

Tell me what you are wanting to do and I will see if I can lead you through it (I have several Linksys RV016 units).

I have a linksys RV042. Now it seems its only possible to make a quickvpn connection to the Rv042 when i'm logged in as admin on a remote workstation. Its' not possible as a common user.
you can find a simular question on:  https://www.experts-exchange.com/Hardware/Networking_Hardware/Routers/Q_21874218.html.

Is there a work-around ?
The only thing I want is that a few remote users are able to make a secure connection to my terminal server behind this router.

You could setup Microsoft Windows Remote Desktop (RDP) to allow each PC to access the terminal server directly through the RV unit via port forwarding.

txs mwecomputers for your reply.

but... is it possible to use quickvpn as a common user ?  or is adm-rights really necessary ?

Administrator rights are required for the QuickVPN client, however if you want to give it out so other people can use it and not see the admin password, you might be able to create a 'runas' script as seen in this EE thread:

Another thing you might want to check is to see if the Linksys RV042 unit is also updated with the latest firmware. A number of patches have been released in 2007 that have corrected some 'strange' issues.
