We are running sbs2003 and have a vista ultimate laptop here that is getting "the trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed" when the user tries to sign in.  I have been looking around and have only found a unjoin domain then rejoin as the fix.  The problem with this is we do not want to lose the user settings and what not.

Ok, we just unjoined then joined and it did keep everything. To simulate an "on the road" situation we connected it wirelessly to an external line and vpn in then joined the domain.
