How to properly set-up database connection to a SQL 2005 Web Hosted database using Frontpage 2003?

I have a SQL database hosted on a commercial Web hosting/Domain provider.  One of the options was to implement FrontPage Extensions which I did and it lists them as installed.  When I started Frontpage 2003 Database Wizard, I selected ASP, Connect to an external database, used the SQL Server drivers, specified the Server (based on what was provided by my hosting service), Database name, User name, and password.  After about 30 seconds, I got an error, "

[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.
Source: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers
Number: -2147467259 (0x80004005)"

I double checked the Server that I entered.  Checked to make sure that I had all of the latest updates, and disabled Nortor 360 which attempting to run the connection.  Not sure how to test connection except for re-running the wizard which I have attempted about 6 times.  Also tried to insert Database Results which opened the same connection form as the wizard with the same error.  After about 5 hours of spinning my wheels, I need help!  Should it be this hard?

Are you connecting from your local machine to the hosted SQL Server? I don't think that's usually possible. The connection string provided is usually for your web pages (from the hosted environment) to connect to the hsoted SQL Server.  Can you please double-check?

I executed the connection wizard from my local workstation.  I thought about what you mentioned, but since Microsoft has the connection testing as part of the wizard, I assumed that was possible.  Am I giving Microsoft too much credit on this one?

Thank you for the quick response.  I had to be out of the office for the last couple of days but I have downloaded SQL Express and installed it.   Hopefully I will have time this weekend to actually work on the project so that I can award the points and close the question.

Sorry it took so long to close.  I will not go into excuses.  Downloaded Express and going through tutorials to better understand.  Thanks for your quick responses.
