right click my computer and click manage. go to device manager and look under sound, video and game controllers. There may be a yellow exclamation mark over an item, which means it isnt installed properly - if so, right click it and select uninstall and obtain the latest XP driver from the manufacturer. If there is nothing there, it may be damaged or not seated properly if it is a PCI or PCIe card. Try to reseat the sound card if it is an add-on card, or try a working pci sound card to rule out a bad slot.

went to device manager and under sound, video and game controllers every item is working, I installed the audio drivers for the pc but with no success.  expect the pci device has an exclamation mark.

that sounds like you havent installed the right driver for your sound card.

You need to go here and download the Realtek HD audio driver:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=uk&prodNameId=3352968&prodTypeId=12454&prodSeriesId=3352967&swLang=13&taskId=135&swEnvOID=1093#113165

if the link doesnt work you need to go to the HP website and then follow the link for support and drivers. Then type in your model number and look for audio drivers.

thanks it worked with the update
Also, run "services.msc" and make sure that the "Windows Audio" service's "Status" is "Started". Also, what happens when you try to uninstall the drivers and let Windows reinstall them?
Hi Ntombikaise - if you managed to get it working OK, could you close the question?

Thanks
