VGA to Video Capture?

Last Modified: 2013-11-13
Hi, I am after a bit of hardware which would allow me to capture the VGA output from one machine onto another one. The reason for this is because I need to be able to produce training material which includes 'going into' the BIOS of a machine but obviously can't do this with software.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

You can download Virtual PC 2004 for free. Then you can run a Virtual PC on your desktop and use the Print Screen button. Then just paste to Paint.
As far as actual video capturing, you could use screen recording software like  "My Screen Recorder" or "AutoScreenRecorder" for free, combined with virtual PC to get the desired results. I have used the Print Screen method with VPC, now I am curious to try the recording.

The problem with VPC is you can't view the BIOS (- even the VPC AMIBios)

A good digital camera as mentioned is the simplest.
If you have a proper printer (NOT a Windows-printer), attached to the parallel-port, that can also run without drivers, you can use Ctrl-P (control and P together) to print your BIOS-settings.

Using VM all the info in your CMOS would be built within the VM container not a very good solution either.

It would be more work but how about a video card that has analog output, routed to another puter with a video capture device?

I was unaware of that, thanks!

You'll need a scan converter.
