Non Unicode Error

I am trying to open a second archive.pst file so that I can consolidate the data. When I try to open the folder I get an error message to the effect:

Microsoft Office is running in the Unicode mode against Microsoft Exchange Server and cannot archive to non-Unicode 97-2002 items.  Please create or select a new personal folder.

I need to get and save the emails that are in that archive.pst file.

Hi I can open the archive file using file > Open > Outlook Data File, but I cannot create a new auto archive to the old archive file.
That is right - that is by design, it is never going to work like that.

Create a totally new archive to a new file, and then drag from the now open PST file contents (folder by folder) to the main archive file.
You can open the old archive file in a personal folder.

You can create a new PST file and name it archive1.pst file. Then you can drag emails from old archive file to new PST file.
