POST STARTUP ERROR
162 CONFIGURATION CHAGE HAS OCCURED
1780 FIXED DISK FAILURE
On the beloved Microsoft site, the error details specify:
1780 Fixed disk 0 failure.* Check data cable and power
cable. Set-up error/drive 0 failure, check cables
setup terminating resistor packs, etc., is the
drive actually spinning?
To be honest, I've not dealt with configuring raid setups before (I'm old skool), but I'm assuming one of the HD's may be dead (through my own googling this has been the case for other people).
Is there a good utility for checking the HD's on the RAID setup without having to reboot the server and go into the BIOS?
I see there should be ServeRAID installed as per default... but this isn't the case.
Is this easy to use or are there other diagnostic tools?
Do you have direct download links to anything that can help with this? Or is it ultimately going to come down to turning off the server, rebooting, checking both HD's spin up, check bios etc?
thanks in advance

If ServerRAID is the IBM version of the Windows based RAID config and diag tool then you are probably going to bneed to reboot. I work with HP and they have a HP RAID attay diagnostic software utility that works great for this kind of thing but to install it I would need to reboot.
Maybe the IBM software can be installed without a need for a reboot but the only way to be sure would be to try it on a dev box or contact IBM support. How old is this server? If its production and under hardware maintenance contact IBM support. If its not and it where me if you can identify which disk has the error and it is definately setup in a RAID array I would try replacing it.

Computer data storage, often called storage or memory, is a technology consisting of computer components and recording media used to retain digital data. In addition to local storage devices like CD and DVD readers, hard drives and flash drives, solid state drives can hold enormous amounts of data in a very small device. Cloud services and other new forms of remote storage also add to the capacity of devices and their ability to access more data without building additional data storage into a device.
