Netcomm Modem IP Address
Hi,
I have a Netcomm NB5 Modem connected to Netgear RangeMax Wireless Router. When I set the system up there was a conflict between the IP address for both and Netcomm support walked me through changing the IP Address.
When I use the ipconfig /all command I only see the IP Address for the router and ethernet card, no modem. If I plug the modem directly into the pc and repeat ipconfig /all I only see an autogenerated IP Address that is not the modem.
Any suggestions on how I can find out the IP Address of the modem.

Hi there,

Now when your computer is connected to the Router you would be assigned an IP called a "Private IP" not a "Public IP". When you share files around your network you would be using your Private IP and not your Public IP (because using a Public IP, the connection transfer rate would be very slow). Now you said that you connected your modem directly to the computer and still you couldn't find your IP? That might mean that your Modem is a router too. So now comes the big question "How do I find my Public IP behind my router". Well you could go to DOS and enter ipconfig, look for Default Gateway and then go to that IP Address (that should lead you to the Router's Page) e.g. 192.168.1.1 (Default for NetGear Routers). You should find your Public IP Address in there. The other way is going to a website like http://www.whatismyip.com or http://www.cmyip.com which would find your Public IP automatically.

Now you said you had NetGear, here are the steps to find your IP via NetGear.
1. Go to your Router's Page e.g. 192.168.1.1
2. Under Maintenance, you should find a tab called Router Status, click on it
3. Now under Internet Port, find IP Address, that should be your Public IP.

Oh I just re-read the question to double check. To find the Modem's IP, connect your modem directly to your computer and disconnect the line going from your Modem to the telephone line. Then enter ipconfig, and now you should see your Modem's IP Address.

Thanks for the suggesions, when I plug the modem direct to the pc, my network connection shown no activity and ipconfig only returns "Windows IP Config" and "ehernet adapter LAN" with an "autoconfiguaration IP address of 169.254.188.31 (this is not the modem address), disconecting the phone line still brings up the same result.

Hi there again,

Sorry for the delay. Now please following these following steps:
1. Go to Start --> Connect To --> Wireless/Lan Local Connection
2. Right Click --> Properties
3. Under General click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and then press Properties
4. Instead of Obtain an IP, click the radio button which says Use the following IP:
*Now the field (boxes) just unlock themselves now.

5. In the field IP Address enter 192.168.1.2, Subnet 255.255.255.0 and Default Gateway 192.168.2.1
6. Click Okay and then Close
7. Open your local browser and go to 192.168.1.1 and that should lead you to your Modem's Page

**Still didn't work? Just tell me so I can investigate more on the issue

Thanks for your help, still no luck (see attached screen shot of ipconfig /all), The address of the Netgear Router is 192.168.5.1, I seem to recall when the modem ip address was changed "bridging" being discussed, I don't know if this actually happened ( I should have written down the new address), but it seem strange that even when I connect the modem direct to the pc, it doesn't work or return an IP address.
Any other suggestions would be apprecicatedl

I found the reset button, in my first message I wrote:
"I have a Netcomm NB5 Modem connected to Netgear RangeMax Wireless Router. When I set the system up there was a conflict between the IP address for both and Netcomm support walked me through changing the IP Address." I should have included "on the modem".

Sorry for not reading the question correctly in which you have mentioned above. Now, we still need to reset the Modem to get the Modem's Router's Page so we can Change the IP to not conflict with the Wireless Router. Also when we get our hands on the Modem's Page, we could DISABLE DHCP so the Modem doesn't assign IP Addresses and to leave that job for your Wireless Router.

Also, another solution is to tell your Router to DISABLE NAT and we could use your Router for an Access Point so the Modem does all the work for Assigning IP Addresses which might be easier for you.
