When attempting to use OCR, error message "Unable to locate the Paper Capture recognition service" is given
I scan and OCR documents virtually every day using Acrobat. I recently upgraded from verion 7.0.8 to version 8.1 and sometime since then I have been unable to use the OCR function. When I attempt to OCR a scanned document I get the following error:
Acrobat could not access the recognition service because:
Unable to locate the Paper Capture recognition service. Your installation may be corrupt.
This is probably due to either a low memory situation or an corrupt installation. Which operating system are you using?

XP SP2. Tried uninstalling Acrobat 8 today, then installing 7.0. OCR funciton worked fine on 7.0. Then I upgraded to 8.1 and got the same problem.

I ended up rebuilding my machine....is working now. Who knows what it was.
