Windows 2003 domain name length

Is there a maximum length for a Windows 2003 domain name.  Would using something like CherrydaleVeterinaryHospital.local result in some anomalous behavior down the road?

When I look at Entire Network in Explorer I see just Cherrydale.

Good info.  Further question please.  Can I change to a shorter name without reinstalling the OS?

Since this is a Small Business Server, i.e. including Exchange running on a domain controller, I guess renaming is out of the question.  Awarding points and closing out.  Thanks for the wealth of info.  It will be immensely useful to everyone with similar questions.
Hi,
The windows Domain name length could be of 65,536 characters but it displays a length of 12 characters.
