SBS2003 won't respond to F8 and can't boot into safe mode
I have a fresh install of SBS2003 on an ibm x3550 sata adaptec hostRAID at RAID 0. I am trying to boot into directory services mode. It appears not to respond to F8 or shift key on boot up and goes straight to the splash screen.

If you don't want to edit the Boot.ini file manually, you can use MSCONFIG to make these changes as well.
Start > Run > msconfig
Under the Boot.ini tab, select the /SAFEBOOT option, and then click the DSREPAIR radio button that will become selectable

There have been times when I had to temporarily switch to a PS2 keyboard to get the F8 key to work.
