Can you Configure Outlook https connection to exchange remotely

I have a client that has a view remote users that connect to the exchange server via https. One of the users purchased a new laptop and wants to configure there outlook, however they are remote and do not have LAN or VPN connection to the exchange server. In the past when setting up Outlook I would connect once to the exchange server locally and then configure the HTTPS settings and away they go.

The question how can I configure outlook to connect to the exchange server using https without having direct access to the exchange server, if even possible.

Thanks

You can do this easily - the great misconception about having to be on the LAN first comes from an incorrect msexchange.org article (it was accurate in the beta though, when the guide was written)

Review this, which explains it clearly -> http://www.amset.info/exchange/rpc-http-client2.asp

Hi,you can configure your O/E to https remotely by configuring Public Folders and these public Folders they can then be assign permissions remotely which can be accessed through http://

What do public folders have to do with it?
