Command line utility\script that sends an HTTP request

I am looking for any assistance regarding a command line utility or script that will emulate sending an HTPP request to a particular web server. I will be  looking for the response from this HTTP request in the w3svc logs via a monitoring tool and will then process an action based on the result. I simply cannot find a command line type function to send an HTTP request. Any help is greatly appreciated. 500 pts due to the personal importance of this.

you can simply telnet to the server on port 80

telnet 80
- this will triiger a request.
If smckellar83's telnet solution did not work for you have you looked at the IIS 6.0 resource kit? TinyGet might be of use.  (

Yes, I have tired the Telnet option and that doesn't quite offer me what I need with respect to the monitoring tool I am using. I wasn't aware of the TinyGet tool from the IIS 6.0 RESOURCE KIT.  It looks promising, thanks for that. I am going test and let you know how it worked.
