Mirroring Backups in Sql 2000 to separate locations?

I have a SQL database and I'm trying to mirror to full backs into separate locations:  One will remain on-site and the other will be sent off-site via VPN.  So far I have only seen this done in SQL 2005, but unfortunately I only have version 2000.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Yes, Ive encountered the same limitation.  With 2000 it is not possible.  That functionality existed in pre 2000 editions and is back in 2005.  Not sure why it was missing in 2000.

Is there a work around for this?

One method would be to backup to local disk, then back that up to tape, and next copy that backup file over the network.
