Need help activating trial version of ACT! 2008.

I've used ACT! for some time - upgrading to the newer versions as they became available.  I downloaded a trial version of ACT! 2008 to try before purchasing.  I then purchased  this version and registered the serial number.  Recently, when starting ACT!, I got a message that my trial version had expired.  To continue I needed to register the product.  I did so and received an email from ACT with my activation code.  However, I could never get past the registration window.  ACT! support helped reset a registry key and I was able to continue.  But now, each time I reboot my computer and start ACT!, I get the message that my trial version has expired.

My experience with ACT! support was so terrible that I'm looking for a new CRM or PIM.  Meanwhile I must continue with ACT!  Can anyone help me sovle this problem?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Yuo say this happens after re-booting.

Does ACT! still work after that?

Thank you for your response.

Yes, once I re-enter my serial number and re-activate my software, ACT! will start - sometimes.  However, I have had problems getting past the activation screen.  One time I got an error message telling me my serial number had already been activated.  I could not get past that screen.  ACT! support corrected that with a registry edit - for now.

UPDATE: this morning when I started my system, ACT! started normally.  Yet I'm very concerned about a repeat with this "trial software expired" problem.  I own the software - I have the original CD, packaging, etc.  How do I get past the trial software messages?

Thanks again for your help.

It started normally today?

Were you logged in as an administrators on the computer? It sounds like it couldn't write the registry key it needed so it never thought the key was properly entered.

I think you should re-boot and see if it still happens.

Can you post the reg key they sent? - Use the Attach File section when replying

I don't have the reg key.  The ACT tec support person remotely signed onto my computer to edit my registry.  This fix allowed me to get past the screen where you enter your serial number.  After this - I've had to go through the registration and activitation process a few times because of the error - "your trial version has expired".  So far, I've been successful re-activating the software.  I'm just concerned that at some point I'll encounter the problems from before and be locked out ACT again.  Plus, It's a real hassle to continue to register and activate the software.

If I uninstall ACT! and then reinstall it from my CD - do you think this will erase all references to the "trial" version?

Thanks

No, uninstalling doesn't remove normal trial status... but without knowing what the support guy did, it's difficult to say.

The best option would be to contact support and let them know what happened after they did the reg change and see if they know how to fix it.

Did you try re-booting and see what happens?

Yes, I've re-booted several times.  Sometimes ACT requires me to register - sometimes not.  I can't find any pattern to this (influences from other software, etc.)  I'm stumped.

Thanks for your feedback.  I'll contact ACT! support.
