Restore Exchange 2007 Mailboxes Backup Exec 11d

We have an Exchange 2007 environment.  we are doing full backups to a Tape Library.  We have the restore individual mailboxes checked off.  The backups run successfully with no problems.  The database is 65gbs.  We have multiple storage groups and each storage group has its own database.

We have tried to restore this database at least 10 times with no results.  Backup Exec reports 100% success, but we are not getting data out of it.  We need to recover mail for 2 users.  The users have been recreated and they can receive mail without any problems.

We tried to restore one user at a time, using redirect to another user and restoring to a test user. We were going to export the mail to pst and import into the correct users mailbox.  That did not work.  100% success, but the mail was not in the test users mailbox.  The edb and log files were sitting in a temp directory.  We have tried using Recovery storage groups within exchange.  Same issue, the restore shows 100% but this time it doesnt drop the database into the temp directory.  Each restore takes about 5 hours, so you can imagine its frustrating.

The following error was returned when opening the Exchange Database file: '-514 The version of the log file is not compatablle with the ESE version'".

Reason:
The above error is reported if the version of the ESE.DLL on the Backup Exec server is different from the one on the Exchange 2007 server. This occurs in the event that the Exchange 2007 server has been patched to recent updates like Service Packs/ Rollup Patches for Exchange but the same Service Packs/Rollup Patches have not been applied to the Exchange 2007 Management Tools installed on the Backup Exec server.
Solution:
Update the Exchange 2007 Management Tools installed on the Backup Exec server to the same level of patches applied on the Exchange 2007 server. Confirm that the ESE.DLL versions match on both servers

Note: Installing Patches still in BETA Phase on Production servers is not recommended nor supported.

You have exhausted your recovery options from within BE and RSG if you have taken care to perform the steps properly.

Firstly apply all the updates for BE and then push install the agent on the Exchange server to avoid this in the future
If BE fails to restore items or restores blank items the workaround is RSG or a redirected restore which mostly works but unfortunately did not in yr case

Are you absolutely sure that the backups were performed with the option to ENABLE RESTORE OF INDIVIDUAL ITEMS FROM INFORMATION STORE BACKUPS selected.

As a last resort if the restore is really critical try the software mentioned below
you can try the free version (limited functionality) and purchase it if it suits you
I have seen it work where everything else has failed

on second thoughts there is another option that you can try

Duplicate the existing backups (which are on TAPE) to a Backup to Disk folder
try a restore from the backups on the B2D instead of the TAPE (that will eleminate the STAGING PROCESS)

iamthecreator, thanks for the input, we ended up calling Symantec support and they reccomended the duplicate to tape process as well.  We performed that step last night to help speed up the process to test.  Now when I try and do the restore we get an error message.  I click the plus next to the IMG0005, then the plus next to the date, then I try and click the plus next to the mailbox store i want to browse so that I can get to the individual user i want to restore and we get the error message

"The following error was returned when opening the Exchange Database file: '-514 The version of the log file is not compatablle with the ESE version'".

I have yet to research this error.

Stay tuned
