Can ping the internet and ping internal network PC's but can't browse the Internet

Windows XP  SP2
I have a customer that can ping "www.yahoo.com", the IP address for www.yahoo.com, and the local network computers. This is the network server and all users can connect and use the files from the server but the computer cannot browse the web until after I run the winsockfix. Once I do this it works until the next day. The computer is never turned off so I wouldn't think that anything in the startup would be getting triggered. I have scanned the computer with NAV, Spybot, and other spyware/adware type programs but haven't found anything. The next step that I have decided to do is run the HiJackThis program but what should I look for?
Thanks for any ideas.

Maybe there is something with IExplorer settings (Wrong Proxy etc.)? Try using a different browser (for example firefox @ www.firefox.com )

Ok rpggamergirl I will try that. I haven't tried leaving either of these off since it seems to work during the day but the next morning they can't get back on. I would be afraid to leave either of these off all night since this is the file server.

I will try your other solutions though.
I tried the suggestions that you offered but the next day - again they were off the internet. I am not sure where to go from here for this one. Any more ideas.

# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
#      102.54.94.97     rhino.acme.com          # source server
#       38.25.63.10     x.acme.com              # x client host

127.0.0.1       localhost

It seems that there isn't anything wrong here.

We have NAV Small Business installed version 10.x.
i uninstalled/reinstalled the network card from the Device manager today of course restarting between the two. We will give it a few days to see if works.
So the solution seemed to be uninstalling and reinstalling the network card. Thanks for all of your suggestions.
Thanks for all of your help with this question.
Glad to know you've solved the problem and thanks for posting the solution.
Very kind and generous of you to award the points.

Thank you.
