In place upgrade from 32bit to 64bit Windows Server 2003

Hello Everyone,

I am trying to find out if I can perform a "in place" upgrade from a 32bit installation of windows 2003 server to the 64bit version or will I have to perform a completely new installation. I reason for wanting to do this is to make more memory available to the server OS than just the 4gb limit on the 32bit installation.

Thanks for your help.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi mattsteel,

You can not upgrade from 32-bit to 64-bit. Clean installation is required.
