Upgrading from Windows Vista Home Premium to Windows Vista Ultimate
Help! I just brought a new Toshiba laptop and it has Windows Vista Home Premium on it and I want to upgrade it to WIndows Vista Ultimate Edition which I have a CD for from the Windows Action Pack we own through Microsoft. I also have the product key. It never lets me upgrade it. What do I need to do to do this?

So if I buy Windows Vista Ultimate Edition I'd be able to upgrade it, correct?
Yes, that's correct -- you'll need the upgrade version unless you want to do a clean install.
Actually all you really need is a vista ultimate product key which you can purchase with the "anytime upgrade" built into windows. The Vista CD contains ALL the versions, the corresponding product key unlocks the different versions.
KCTS is correct -- didn't think about Anytime Upgrade. It should be significantly cheaper than buying upgrade retail package.

Ok, where do you go to get this Anytime Upgrade product key and I'll get that? THanks guys! :)
Open Programs from the Start Menu - its in "Extras and Upgrades"

Does anyone know if you can download the windows anytime upgrade cd? I order the upgrade from the store above but you still need the anytime upgrade cd and I don't have one :(
Your existing CD has all you need. All versions of Vista are on the same CD, all you have to do is use your new product key.

They don't give you a new product key when you buy the upgrade that way. You need the anytime upgrade cd still. Vista is really a PITA. I already got on the phone with them. They don't give you a key and they tell you that you need that cd to perform the upgrade. I asked them for a key and they said there is none that you get and you can't use the action pack cd to do the upgrade.

On the CD it has to say Anytime Upgrade or it won't work. I have an e-mail from them with the order for the upgrade but it contains no keycode. When you click on the link they give you with the order it prompts you for the cd. Even if you put in the action pack CD which contains all the versions on it it doesn't work. My action pack CD says English Disc 2429.6 Macrch 2007 DVD Product Key Required MSDN Windows Vista ISO images for Windows Vista and Windows XP Professional with SP2.
Still need a Product Key which purchasing it through this method does not give you. :(
Anyway, thanks ;)

WAIT I think you are right. Despite the fact that it tells you to insert the anytime upgrade CD you can insert the action pack CD and run setup and it works anyway!!!! You my friend are a genius! How could I ever have doubted you. You are right, these guys at MS don't even know their own stuff sometimes :)
THANKS A MILLION! I needed to use Virtual PC and it woudln't work with Vista Home Premium. THANKS SO MUCH!!!

Thanks! Sorry I ever doubted you....thought Microsoft knew what they were talking about.
- as I said in comment 20764230 !

Thanks, but KCTS should get some of the credit for recommending Anytime Upgrade.. A split would have been appropriate.
As for all versions being on DVD, I said that in the first comment.

I didn't know who got the credit I was just saying when I tried it it didn't seem to work from the action pack cd initially. It ended up working. Thank YOU ALL and if I credited the points wrong I'm sorry. Everyone on the thread helped me sorry for not spreadoing the appreciation properly. THANKS!!!!! :)
Note: All versions of Vista are on DVD, differentiation is by product key.
