OWA Does not work externally forwards to internal Address

I have OWA Running if I type Https://internalname.domain.internal/exchange inside my network it works fine

if I type https://mail.domainname.com/exchange it sends me to a login prompt, if I log in then I see opening https://internalname.domain.internal/exchange  obviously it crashes because i'm extrenal and it's trying to resolve the internal address. this is outlook 2007 and i'm stumped!

I think this is just a difference between Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2007, when we upgraded at work we had to switch from using /exchange to /owa at the end of the address, the https:// wasnt the thing that made any difference.  I think MS have rebranded it as OWA in 2007 more fully!

It looks like you are having problems with your certificate, since you are mentioning https, means you have a certificate installed, check for which name your certificate is assigned.

In Exchange Management Console, find the OWA Virtual Directory, and look at its properties.  Make sure that the FQDN property value is the name that you would like to use.
