Coping Active Directory from a 2000 DC to a 2003 DC

I have a sever running Windows 2000 Advanced server. I want to do a new install of Windows 2003 standard server on the machine. Is it possible to backup the active directory on the Windows 2000 server then restore it into the new copy of Windows 2003 Standard server? What I want to accomplish is to copy all of the user accounts and passwords to the new server. Thanks for in help you can provide on this issue.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

No it is not possible to do it the way you describe - you can use the ADMT - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=6f86937b-533a-466d-a8e8-aff85ad3d212&displaylang=en
or you can install the Win2003 server on another machine, make it an additional DC and then demote the old DC after moving the FSMO roles and other services.
