"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi,

What sort of things would you store in this database server?

What other databases does your web site use?

In DMZ
Pros - easier connection from webserver
Cons - easier access from potentially everybody - harder to secure

In Trusted Side
Pros - protected by firewall
Pros - easier to administer - can use windows authentication for that.
Cons - slightly more difficult to connect from web-site. But that is a one off, once done etc.

Web-site login/authentication will mostly be SQL authentication.
