where can i find the serial number on a core duo processor

i am trying to find the serial number for a core duo processor i just paid for and its not working.
but i cant seem to figure out where the serial number is. Can anyone help me?

usually its on the bar code on the box it came in

"belarc advisor"  is another option. it gives you every detail you want to know about your computer. the trial version will work just fine for this as well.

Belarc won't work if the CPU isn't able to run the computer.
What do you mean by serial number.
There is a box or OEM order code http://www.intel.com/support/processors/core2duo/sb/CS-023098.htm
Then there is the SPEC number which should be stamped on the heatsink die of the CPU

I misread the Q, here is a pic of the CoreDuo with SPEC number SL9DN written on the black section of the CPU
