Corrupt Desktop Icons

I have a desktop that is showing every icon as the same, I attempted to delete the ShellIconCache file in order to resolve and also amend the Desktop Properties > Appearance information by selecting "Icon" item and resetting by bumping up 1 pixel and then down 1 pixel. This still did not resolve client's issue. Will I need to amend the registry in order to fix this or is there anything else aside from TweakUI that I can use or do to repair?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

sounds like spyware could be to blame... try scanning with somethingn like spybot and see if that helps, if not i would try a repair

seems like the spyware has taken its tole... try the sfc /scannow in cmd and see if that will fix it, what that does is a system file check to see if the system files are correct/corrupt... but if its that bad it might be easier to just reloading windows instead of chasing a ghost around

Why are you looking for a solution other than TweakUI?  I think that will solve your problem, using TweakUI there is an option to "Rebuild Icons" which will sort you right out!

You suggestion was made after i had already determined to use it. Therefore, I had resolved this issue myself, thus my decision to pull the question.
