Shrink/reduce Transaction Log files

Hi, I have an SQLServer 2000 DB with a 400MB data file and a 23GB (!) log file.  The logfiles are not part of the backup plan.

How can I reduce the size of these transaction logs to something more reasonable..?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

You need to take regular backups of your log file, better schedule for backuping up at least once in an hr

DBCC SHRINKFILE(log filename, 1000)
BACKUP log databasename WITH TRUNCATE_ONLY
DBCC SHRINKFILE(log filename, 1000)

This shrink the transaction log file to 1000 mb., you can mention the size whatever you want to shrink it to

Hope this helps

Thanks,

Aash.
