Editing the registry when registry freezes

I am trying to make changes in HKLM/Software/Classes/AppID. However I click on classes, the program freezes at that point. I have exited and gone back in a couple of times I was able to advance the scroll two folders before the programs freezes again.

Is there a work around?

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Tried regedit.exe, or using the reg add command fro a command line?

Regedit doesn't allow me to change the permissions for the value, only regedt32 will allow such a task, and that is freezing after accessing HKLM/software

Try replacing regedt32 with a known good copy form the install cd.....
