asked on

windows 2000 Routing and Remote Access

Hi, thanks to all in advance.
We use windows 2000 server for our MS VPN.

For some reason only 9 users are able to log in at any given time.

Is that MS default or there are some settings that i cant find that control this?

Thanks,

Check the DHCP pool for the number of IP  set aside for RRAS or the number of PPTP ports

ASKER

DHCP is not a problem, its set for 50.  There are 125 pptp ports.

The actual error message is

Cannon retrieve protocol information
error 668: The connection was terminated
Any errors in the server eventlog?
yes  event id 20050

The user xxxxxxxx  connected to port VPN4-118 has been disconnected because no network protocols were successfully negotiatated.
Any user?  Namely, if userA was able to connect yesterday but not today because there are 9 users? or just one specific user?
nope.  any 9 users log in and after that its over.

I was just talking to my manager and he said that the RAS server does not use the main DHCP server but it gets the IP's from the RAS itself.

is this right?
Yes, you can configure it to use DHCP or a particular IP range
where are the settings for that one?
Open RRAS
Select the server and right click - Properties
Select IP tab - there you will see the IP settings - whether or not DHCP or static pool is used
It is set for the DHCP
