Hi, thanks to all in advance.
We use windows 2000 server for our MS VPN.

For some reason only 9 users are able to log in at any given time.

Is that MS default or there are some settings that i cant find that control this?

Thanks,

Check the DHCP pool for the number of IP  set aside for RRAS or the number of PPTP ports

DHCP is not a problem, its set for 50.  There are 125 pptp ports.

The actual error message is

Cannon retrieve protocol information
error 668: The connection was terminated

Any user?  Namely, if userA was able to connect yesterday but not today because there are 9 users? or just one specific user?

Author

Commented:
nope.  any 9 users log in and after that its over.

I was just talking to my manager and he said that the RAS server does not use the main DHCP server but it gets the IP's from the RAS itself.

is this right?

Yes, you can configure it to use DHCP or a particular IP range

Open RRAS
Select the server and right click - Properties
Select IP tab - there you will see the IP settings - whether or not DHCP or static pool is used

It is set for the DHCP
If you use DHCP as IP assignment method to users, RAS give 10 IP address each time it request IP from DHCP server, one for itself and 9 for clients. So, if your DHCP server doesn't have enough IP addresses in its pool to accommodate 10 ip address each time ras server request IP, RAS server can't lease any IP address. It seems your DHCP server doesn't have enough IP address.
