Two DHCP Servers

I have four DHCP servers configured on my VLAN subnet. When clients on the VLAN subnet send  DHCP request, will packet be sent to all four servers or only to the first server on the list?

DHCP requests are broadcast requests, and they are sent to all machines on the network.

The client requests an IP, gets offered an IP, and then ACK's the IP or acknowledges it. It is only the nthat the DCHP server will reserve its IP.

It will acknowledge the first IP it is given, or first server to respond to its request.

The request is sent to all four DHCP servers.  The first to respond is the one that will be used.

Can I ask why you require multiple DHCP servers on one VLAN segment? You dont want to do this because they all maintain seperate listings!

I think he means in regards to the helper-address statements on a VLAN interface.

That is right cammj, I meant the the ip helper address statements on the VLAN interface. I am adding two more servers to my VLAN subnet for resilience purposes.  The two servers I am adding are based in a different location than the current two already configured.

For example here is my config on the layer 3 switch:
***Current config***
 interface vlan20
  ip address 10.10.15.20 255.255.255.0
  ip helper-address 168.164.58.5
  ip helper-address 168.164.58.6
  ip helper-address 10.169.30.5
  ip helper-address 10.169.30.6

Like I said, the router will send a request to all four DHCP servers.  Make sure you don't have overlapping ranges in your scopes...

I was aguing with my colleagues about the answer, and confused of what they were telling me.  When I saw JFrederick29 answer I was please with the clear rand accurate response, and to be honest that made my day.
Well done Frederick.
